Shen’s Pre-Birthday Dinner

I attended Shen’s pre-Birthday dinner last Saturday and this post was supposed to come up by Sunday but I had other matters to tend to — thesis and assignments hence it was deterred. Thought it’d be good to do justice since I’ve been delaying it far too long and her Birthday is already over. The exact day was on the 31st of March; Belated Happy Birthday to you again babe!

Here’s a brief history about us:-

Shen is one of my close friends whom I met during Foundation and it was four years ago. Our encounter started around early-April. She has been a great friend ever since and it’s such a blessing that our friendship is still ongoing and unbreakable despite the ups and downs we’ve faced together as buddies. Hey, after all, relationships are not easy; an amount of blood, sweat and tears is involved. All right, forget the word ‘blood’. I’m exaggerating.

Last Saturday, she invited a few of us for dinner — her pre-Birthday celebration and it was held at Top Hat. Located at one of the older and swankier Kuala Lumpur neighbourhoods, Top Hat is housed one of the few remaining mansions in the city. The surroundings had lushes of Angsana trees and overgrown Heliconias. The interior of the restaurant was amazing — as it was exuded with peace, class, and style. The restaurant was instantly likeable due to the distinctive past of the mansion. The staffs were very nice and friendly too which is hard to come by sometimes.

We were seated in a private dining room and had a very classic style and it felt like the Peranakan era. Peranakan; a term used for the very early descendants of Chinese immigrants to the Nusantara region. This includes the British Straits Settlements of Malaya and Dutch-controlled island of Java who have to some extent adopted the Malay customs in their lifestyles to be assimilated into the local communities.

Anyway, the dinner was fun and food was great; the one I ordered was Chicken and Mushroom Pie. We had swanky, crazy, hilarious moments because everyone was constantly doing something funny especially when it came to photo taking sessions. I had my camera aimed at Shen and her darling, Andre, most of the time. But of course, she was still the star of the night — shining radiantly in her light sea green with flowery motifs in dark cyan dress. Truth be said, everyone had fun and I bet she did too. And I have so many hilarious photos of her but luckily she did not kill me.

I shall allow the photos to graze this post and tell you the rest of the story. However, it will be in two parts because there are quite a number of photos to be posted.
