Birthday Surprise!
The excitement is still sticking in my mind and though it’s 3.44 in the morning (I should be in bed!) I cannot stop myself from writing this post. Indeed, I need to wake up early in the morning tomorrow but let’s just let me blog this before I retreat to my humble chambers.
Alexis was the venue and I just came back home half an hour ago. I was out earlier in the evening to celebrate Joanne’s Birthday in advance because I had to practically book her since she will be fully booked when her Birthday comes (next week). Though the celebration was way earlier than the real date it was indeed a night to cherish and behold. You can never forget this awesome night if you are there – believe me.
I would say that our plans (mine and Matthew’s) were accomplished and it was indeed very successful. Of course without Bryan’s help it would not come to this stage as well. What we did was … I asked Jo to come for dinner on Friday night and I was crossing my fingers that our plans would work out because it has been more than a week since Matthew and I planned on what we should do for her birthday. The first place was Chilis but we thought it would be better if we could take her somewhere that has good food and ambience and relaxing at the same time. I told Matthew that we should go to Alexis since they would be having a gimmick there and if the band or singer that was scheduled to perform could sing the Birthday song it would be better. Finally, we both agreed that Alexis should be the venue and the main “crime scene”.
Before that we had trouble getting the cake and there were so many options to choose from and our very first option would be the Chocolate Banana cake from Secret Recipe but somehow at the end I had an intuition that it will not click with Jo’s taste. Bananas do not seem like her “thing” at all and then we looked at Baskin Robbins. Planned to get the Oreo ice cream cake but they needed 3 days to deliver the cake and we had to cancel it again. Then we both decided on Häagen-Dazs ice cream cake (pure ice cream with whipped cream), the coffee flavour. What a relief to have come to an end of deciding what to buy!
Upon entering Alexis I tried to delay time and Matthew was way behind me because he had to sneak into Häagen-Dazs to ask them to deliver the cake over to Alexis but thank God everything fell into the puzzle perfectly.
The gimmick started and Sharizan Borhan, Jazz and Swing crooner was performing and adrenaline was rushing through my body because I did not know what the surprise would be like though we asked Bryan to request Sharizan to croon Jo a Birthday song. Even Matthew was feeling the same way and we were whispering the whole time wondering what will happen and the bistro was on full house. I was telling Matthew that everything will be very, very big and unbelievable.
During the second performance Sharizan performed one song before he moved on to our request. Sounds like Total Request Live, no?! He started off by saying Happy Birthday to Jo before asking her to stand up. I thought that was it but hell, no. He then asked Jo come over the stage and by then she was looking at me with the I-AM-SO-GONNA-KILL-YOU-LATER look. She stepped up to the stage and he crooned to her, the Birthday song and it was totally awesome. Everyone was cheering and clapping. And the last surprise came when one of the waiters presented her with the cake and she had to blow the candles.
To witness the whole surprise; watch the video clip below. Enjoy!
On a side note: Joanne, I hope you had fun yesterday night and that the surprise was a good one! And it was indeed a great night for me and also Matthew. And please do not kill me okay?! Or rather us!
